St Martin’s Coffee Roasters have been dedicated to sourcing, roasting, and supplying the very best specialty coffee to our wholesale and home customers for nearly ten years. What began as a small 1 kg roaster behind a cafe counter has grown into a thriving wholesale business, serving customers across the UK, alongside a flourishing home e-commerce operation that has expanded significantly in recent years.
We’re a fast-moving company with lofty ambitions, and we’re on the lookout for a full-time Trainee Coffee Roaster to help keep the beans flowing.
Job Summary:
This is an exciting opportunity for someone who loves coffee and is keen to learn the roasting process while playing a key role in the day-to-day production and fulfilment of a growing specialty coffee business. The Trainee Coffee Roaster will work closely with the Head Roaster, supporting coffee roasting alongside core production tasks such as order packing, stock management, and customer liaison.
For those with little to no roasting experience, comprehensive training will be provided, including hands-on, on-site training and external intensive coffee roasting courses. No prior roasting experience is required—just a strong work ethic, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.
Please note: This is a physically demanding, hands-on role involving manual labour, repetitive tasks, and a high level of attention to detail. This is a full-time, on-site position, working Monday to Friday, 8:00am–4:00pm, with no working-from-home options.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with coffee roasting under the supervision of the Head Roaster.
- Support with day-to-day production operations
- Pack and dispatch wholesale and e-commerce orders accurately and on time.
- Restock roasted coffee, packaging materials, and production supplies.
- Assist with inventory control, stock rotation, and goods-in processes.
- Liaise with wholesale and retail customers regarding orders, collections, and basic queries.
- Participate in cupping sessions to assess roast quality and consistency.
- Operate and maintain roasting and production equipment safely and efficiently.
- Maintain cleanliness, organisation, and safety standards across the roastery.
- Follow all health and safety policies and procedures.
Requirements:
- Demonstrable passion for coffee and interest in learning the roasting and production process.
- Strong attention to detail and pride in accuracy and consistency.
- Comfortable with physical work, including manual handling of items up to 20–30 kg with appropriate equipment and safe lifting practices, and standing for extended periods.
- Confident communicating with customers and working as part of a small team.
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage repetitive tasks reliably.
